What is Brachiopod?

Brachiopods are marine animals that have hard, hinged shells on the upper and lower surfaces. They are often mistaken for clams, but the two halves of a brachiopod shell are dorsal and ventral, rather than lateral as in clams. Brachiopods are filter feeders and have a fleshy stalk called a pedicle that attaches them to the seafloor. They are an ancient group of animals, with fossils dating back to the Cambrian period. They are found in a variety of colors and textures, and are often preserved in sedimentary rocks.
