General Rules
- • BLM lands: Nearly all 18 million acres open for rockhounding
 - • Limited amounts for non-commercial purposes without charge
 - • Hand tools allowed
 - • State Trust Lands available with proper permissions
 
Permits & Licenses
- • No permits for casual collecting on BLM lands
 - • State Trust Lands may require access permit
 - • Commercial collecting requires permits
 
Restrictions
- • State Parks prohibit destroying or removing geological features
 - • Prohibited in National Parks
 - • Wilderness areas have restrictions
 - • Some areas may have seasonal closures
