General Rules

  • • BLM lands: 25 pounds per day plus one piece, 250 pounds per year limit
  • • Limited BLM land available in Washington
  • • Hand tools only
  • • Materials must be for personal use

Permits & Licenses

  • • No permits for casual collecting on limited BLM lands
  • • USFS lands generally don't require permits
  • • State lands may require special permits

Restrictions

  • • State Parks prohibit removing rocks or minerals
  • • Prohibited in National Parks and Monuments
  • • Most public lands have restrictions
  • • DNR lands require special permission
