Rockhounding Regulations
General Rules
- • BLM lands: 25 pounds per day plus one piece, 250 pounds per year limit
 - • State Trust Lands: 25 pounds per day, 250 pounds per year with permit
 - • Hand tools only
 - • Surface disturbance must be negligible
 - • Personal use only
 
Permits & Licenses
- • No permits for casual collecting on BLM lands
 - • State Trust Lands require annual rockhounding permit (fee required)
 - • Commercial collectors need mineral lease or materials permit
 
Restrictions
- • Prohibited in National Parks
 - • No collecting in state parks or sovereign lands
 - • Wilderness areas limited to surface collection
 - • Cannot collect where active mining operations exist without permission
