Rockhounding Regulations
General Rules
- • BLM lands: 25 pounds per day plus one piece, 250 pounds per year limit
 - • State Parks: Small amounts allowed with park manager approval
 - • Hand tools only (shovels, picks, hammers)
 - • Ocean shore collecting allowed with limits
 - • Personal use only
 
Permits & Licenses
- • No permits for casual collecting on BLM lands
 - • USFS lands generally don't require permits for personal use
 - • Some state parks may require manager approval
 
Restrictions
- • Prohibited in National Parks and Monuments
 - • County Parks generally prohibit rockhounding
 - • Wilderness areas limited to surface collection only
 - • No digging or disturbing park property in state parks
 - • Army Corps of Engineers property prohibits all collecting
